Study Predicts Trillions Lost From Climate Change 3 October 12

Climate Vulnerability Monitor 2012, sponsored by 20 nations and conducted by the humanitarian and development research organization DARA, shows unprecedented harm to human society if runaway carbon emissions are not contained. The report shows that new energy generation and less consumption must be pursued. Current carbon intensive economic models are identified as a cause of these problems.

"A combined climate-carbon crisis is estimated to claim 100 million lives between now and the end of the next decade," the report said.

Commissioned by the world’s most vulnerable countries and backed by high-level and technical panels, the new Monitor estimates human and economic impacts of climate change and the carbon economy for 184 countries in 2010 and 2030, across 34 indicators.

The Climate Vulnerability Monitor 2nd Edition indicates climate change has already held back global development and that inaction is a leading global cause of death.
