Atlas of Health and Climate Released by WHO 16 November 12

The World Health Organization and the World Meterological Organization collaborated to create the new Atlas of Health and Climate released in Geneva October 29, 2012. The WMO Congress in Geneva, where the Atlas was releaed, discussed the Global Framework for Climate Services. The Atlas illustrates some of the world's most pressing challenges. It provides sound scientific information on the connections between weather and climate and major health challenges.

At 68 pages, the Atlas gives practical examples of how weather and climate information can protect public health in the face of climate variability and extreme weather events. Links between health and climate are shown in maps, tables, graphics.

"Stronger cooperation between the meterological and health communities is essential to ensure that up to date, accurate and relevant information on weather and climate is integrated into public health management at international, national and local levels." said WMO Secretary General Mr. Michel Jarraud.
