Germany Sets Another Solar Power Record 26 July 13

On July 7th, 2013, Germany broke yet another solar power record when the country's 1.3+ million photovoltaic systems turned a sunny summer day into 23.9 GW of solar power at about 1:30 PM. The massive solar electricity output is attributed to approximately 1.4 million solar power systems installed across the country, with about 8.5 million people living in buildings which incorporate solar systems to produce electricity.

After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster in Japan, Germany adopted a policy of phasing out nuclear energy by 2022 and ensuring that 80 percent of the country's electricity supply comes from clean energy by 2050. Even with starting to phase out its nuclear power plants, Germany has seen its power output quadruple since 2011.
