Manitoba's Clean Environment Commission (CEC) hearings on the proposed Bipole III Transmission Project concluded their eighth week, and are now adjourned until March 4, 2012.
Hearings were originally scheduled to conclude November 26, 2012, but in late October Manitoba Hydro announced several changes to the proposed route. On November 13, 2012 Manitoba Hydro announced that it would file a supplemental environmental assessment regarding the route changes with Manitoba Conservation sometime around January 28, 2013. Hearings are scheduled to resume March 4-14, 2013 to consider the route changes.
Manitoba CEC is conducting public hearing about the potential environmental and socio-economic impacts of constructing and operating this proposed project, as requested by the Minister of Conservation and Water Stewardship. Using information gathered from hearings, the CEC will prepare a report for the minister, with recommendations regarding the project, potential licence standards and other matters.
The proposed Manitoba Hydro Bipole III project is a 1400 km 500kV high-voltage DC electrical transmission line originating near the site for the proposed Conawapa hydroelectric generating station on the Nelson River, and terminating east of Winnipeg, east of the Winnipeg Floodway.
Manitoba Wildlands is registered as an unfunded participant for the Bipole III CEC proceedings and hearings for the Bipole III Transmission Project.
