Elections Manitoba
When Garry Doer announced his resignation as premier of Manitoba he put in motion the steps for the Manitoba New Democratic Party (NDP) members to select the new Leader of their party, who then becomes the next Premier of Manitoba.
The date for the next election in Manitoba, according to the Elections Act, will be in October 2011, four years after the previous province wide election. That means the NDP leader who replaces Mr. Doer as Premier of Manitoba will be in office until October 2011.
Manitoba Wildlands sent a survey of environmental questions, mostly about lands, waters, and climate to each candidate for leader/premier. Mr. Ashton responded, Mr. Selinger did not.

On Saturday October 17, 2009 Greg Selinger was elected leader of the Manitoba New Democratic Party in a Winnipeg convention with satellites in both The Pas and Thompson, Manitoba. He was selected by an almost two to one margin, in a ballot with Steve Ashton. Mr. Selinger became Premier of Manitoba as a result of his election as Party leader.
Manitoba Wildlands sent its 2007 pre election survey to the leaders of all Manitoba political parties in late February 2007. The Liberal, PC, and Green parties answered the survey in March 2007. The survey contains several categories of questions, with short questions in each category. It is designed to encourage clear YES or NO answers.
Manitoba Wildlands encourages other Manitoba civil society organizations to ask our political leaders questions relevant to the future of our province.
The 2007 Manitoba Provincial Election took place May 22, 2007.
